Granular absorbents for even the most dangerous of spills
In a factory, garage, hospital or lab where you’re working with acids, solvents, caustics – a spill can be dangerous to the staff, the machinery and everything in its path. That’s why it’s critical to stock up on granular absorbents that are designed for a specific purpose and can decrease the chance of ignition for safer cleanup and handling. Safety-Kleen offers a variety of granular absorbents capable of neutralizing spills and minimizing worker exposure. In addition to granular absorbents, we also provide chemical neutralizing kits – multi-purpose and portable – to get those spills neutralized no matter where they happen. For everyday spills and leaks such as water, oil, coolants and solvents, universal absorbents will do the job in a snap.

It’s important to understand the nature of the spill before treating it. An acid spill can react differently than a water spill and should be handled judiciously. Many of our granular products will neutralize and solidify acids and caustics for safe and easy cleanup, minimizing production downtime. For dangerous battery acid, we recommend a special pelletized formula that absorbs without leaving dust or residue. Be sure to understand the nature of the spill before you reach for a neutralizing granular absorbent.
Why do I need granular absorbents?
Granular absorbents neutralize and encapsulate spills, and in some cases even change color to let you know when it’s safe to finish the cleanup. Gelling agents can solidify acids during this process to prevent further leaching and facilitate cleanup and exposure. For spills of a less dangerous nature, such as oil, solvents, coolants and even water, universal absorbents can be applied, soaking up spills with twice the absorbency of clay.
What if I spill hydrofluoric acid?
Safety-Kleen offers granular absorption for hydrofluoric acid. When applied to the spill, the product converts the spilled acid into calcium fluoride and inorganic salts, neutralizing the acid. The large particle size is safe to use around sensitive equipment and outdoors and won’t splatter or leave reside like powdered neutralizers.
What is universal absorbent?
Our universal absorbent is compatible with most typical shop liquids – absorbs oils, coolants, solvents and water. Corn Cob Absorbent is ideal for small spills and formulated to provide up to twice the absorbency of clay. It offers high BTU value and low ash content.
How do I clean battery acid?
You can safely clean up battery acid drips, leaks and spills with a convenient neutralizer spray. Simply spray it on the spill, and the pH-indicating formula will change color from beige to red. Then when the acid is neutralized and safe to clean up, it will change back to beige. This helps prolong the life of your battery by helping prevent corrosion. Remember: always use the correct neutralizer when dealing with any type of acid.
